NHRC PARTNERS WITH ECOWAS TO CELEBRATE ECOWAS HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

National Human Rights Commission in collaboration with the Network Of National Human Rights Institutions in West Africa and the ECOWAS Commission marks the maiden celebration of ECOWAS Human Rights Day today Monday 16th Jan.2017.

This year's celebration is geared towards promoting Human Rights and inclusive governance mainly with regards to women and youth.

The President of the Network of National Human Rights Institutions in West Africa, who is also the Ag. Executive Secretary of the NHRC Mrs.Oti Ovrawah said... attention has to be focused on the plight of women across all places in West Africa where there have been violence in recent times....

It could be recalled that the ECOWAS authority of Heads of State and government at its 50th ordinary session set aside 16th of January as ECOWAS Human Rights Day.

It is symbolic in the sub region as it marks the ascension to power of the first female President in Africa Her Excellency Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
