ZAMBIAN DELEGATION LAUDS NHRC's UPR PROCESS

The Vice Chairperson of Zambian Human Rights Commission, Kondwa Chibiya has lauded the Nigerian National Human Rights Commission's Universal Periodic Review process (UPR) saying that her country is desirous of taking a cue from it.

The Zambian Senior Human Rights Official who stated this when she led a delegation from Zambian Human Rights Institution to the Commission, said that they visited the Commission to understudy the roles it plays in ensuring that Nigeria follows the international best practices in rendering proper report on its human rights situation at the United Nations.

In her response, the Acting Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Mrs. Oti Ovrawah thanked the delegation for their visit to the Commission saying that it will boost opportunities for partnership between the human rights institution in Nigeria and Zambia.

She opined that the delegation's visit would no doubt yield a positive result as far as advancing the cause of human rights is concerned even as she noted that both countries could leverage on the experience of each other in addressing their human rights issues.

During the visit, various departments and units of the NHRC took turn to explain their functions to the visiting team from Zambia.
