As Nigeria joins the rest of Africa to commemorate the International Day of the African Child, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) calls for urgent action to protect children from exploitation, trafficking, violence, child labour, and all forms of abuse.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) joins the international community in commemorating World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 2026, observed annually on 15 June, to raise awareness on the abuse, neglect, exploitation, and discrimination faced by older persons across the world.

The National Human Rights Commission has condemned in the strongest terms the abduction and subsequent death of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in bandits’ captivity, describing it as a grave violation of the right to life and personal security that demands urgent and systemic responses.

DISSOLUTION OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL

The Federal Government on 1st August 2025, dissolved the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission that was Inaugurated in the year 2021.
