The Benue State Office of the National Human Rights Commission has successfully resolved a consumer rights complaint, securing a 50 percent refund for a complainant from a private fertility clinic in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The complainant had approached the Benue State Office in Makurdi August last year, alleging that she had been seeking refund from the clinic following a failed medical procedure since 2024, without success. According to the petition, all efforts to obtain redress from the facility had proved futile prior to the Commission's intervention.

Upon receipt of the complaint, the State Office commenced series of investigations and mediation sessions involving the parties. These engagements were aimed at ensuring accountability, fairness and the protection of the complainant's rights.

The intervention culminated in an amicable resolution, with the clinic agreeing to refund 50 percent of the fees paid. The settlement was accepted by all parties, leading to the successful conclusion of the case.

The outcome underscores the NHRC's commitment to provide accessible remedies for rights-related grievances as well as promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms that ensure timely and just outcomes for citizens.
